BY COMING HEREHERE, I was punishing the living by resurrecting the past. Even more, I was defaming the dead by making slanderous claims that Musa was my husband and the father of my baby. Musa’s family was not even interested in listening to me, they had already written me off as a nutcase. I had nothing to say that they wanted to hear.

After listening to me for a while the retired teacher started telling me about Musa. He said Musa’s whole life was in the village; he worked the land and would herd cattle. He never left the village, even for the city and. He was never attracted to the glamour of the city. The city to him only took but never gave, it swallowed and spat,. It was a rat race. On the other hand, the village gave life; the fields produced crops and the land gave life to the livestock. He took farming as a profession. He farmed tomatoes, onions, carrots and sold them at the market in Marondera. That was his trade. He never owned a passport or lived in the city. He was satisfied with life in the village.

In the forest and hills, he hunted animals and it was in the same forest he died. His body was found mutilated. No arrests were made and no explanation given towards his gruesome murder. Some speculate that he was killed by wild animals, but there were no wild animals in that forest. Other’sOthers say he was killed by Bhirito, an unknown killer who is blamed for all the bad things that happen in the village. He said he did not know more than the next person about what happened to Musa in that forest but he knew as much as everyone else there that Musa died and was buried.
